The Zombie MMO Project

The Zombie MMO

The Zombie MMO was an idea that me and my good friend Carlton worked on for awhile. It has been quite a while since I've thought about it so I don't know if I remember everything about it. Here goes.

The World

The world has been ravaged by zombies. It has been 200 years since the first wave hit. Modern governments and society no longer exist. In it's place, pockets of humanity have learned how to live in this new world.  There are a few major population centers with large makeshift fences and around the clock security. These cities are ruled by corrupt militias that have no sympathy for the people they rule. Every city is run by some terrible group or another. There is no more justice in this world.

Starting Out

Looking to escape the tyranny of the cities, you venture out into the wasteland to try to find a place you call your own. You explore what was once the united states of america, looking for supplies and materials. Having to find shelter every night.

The Goal of the Game
You meet up with other players and form a group that works together for mutual survival. With a diverse set of skills this group can build anything from a small survival camp, to a more permanent, safe place of residence. With this safe haven in place, you can go on missions out into the world, anything from food runs to raiding other player settlements.

Skill System

Everything you do in this game is based on some kind of skill. The more you do it, the better you are at it. All kinds of skill. Fire-making to jury rigging explosives. Engineering to Mechanic. Close combat to sniper rifles. Everything you do will gain you experience in any given skill.

Terra-forming

Everything can be altered. You can find an abandoned town, tear down the houses bring the wood to anywhere in the world and use it to build any number of things. You can shape the land with shovels. You can grow food. If you find a tank and you have the right equipment you can take it apart and harvest heavy steel plates. You can find and fix up cars.

Player Versus Player

Resources are always going to be rare and hard to find. Depending on how many people are in your area there just might not be enough around. Sometimes you are gonna have to trade or steal your way through. Sometimes even kill and murder. Hunting parties going out looking for lone players. On the bigger scale of things Settlements can raid other settlements. Remember this game is completely alterable. You could take out another player settlement and wipe it out completely, taking everything and leaving a group of players undefended against the zombie hordes of the wasteland.

Democracy and Politics
Your settlements can form alliances with each other, or declare war. There is no in game mechanic when it comes to alliances or war. It's just mutually accepted terms between players. Everything in this game will be based on the actions of the players. If a leader of a settlement starts getting crazy with power and no one there likes them they can hold elections to elect a new leader. Or they can just kill the guy and take over. Some players might just be complete murderers and kill everyone they meet. Or you can meet a group of players that is helpful and friendly. Or anything else you can imagine. It is always about the player and the choices they make.

That's about all I can remember at the moment. If I think of anything else i'll edit this post later.
